ANNIE & FRIENDS SELF AFFIRMATION CARDS

Project Objectives
Create a set of affirmation cards encouraging self-love and confidence in children aged 6+. Incorporate colour theory by exploring various colour combinations and schemes to effectively convey ideas and develop thoughtful design solutions for the product.

Rationale
The cards are inspired by the animal residents of NSW Hen Rescue, a volunteer-run sanctuary that cares for hens, roosters, ducks, quails, pigs, birds, rabbits, and other animals. Their mission—Liberate. Educate. Inspire.—resonates deeply with their supporters. Sharing the unique stories of these animals can foster a sense of self-love and confidence in others.

Animals are a popular theme in children’s branding, as they often feel a natural connection and kinship with them. The name for the set of cards, “Annie and Friends”, was inspired by several factors:

Annie’s Story: Annie, a young pig rescued by NSW Hen Rescue, required intensive care, including hourly bottle feeding, due to her fragile condition. I had the privilege of assisting in her rehabilitation, and her resilience, trust, and determination deeply moved me. Despite her past experiences, Annie is living her best life as a cherished member of the rescue family.

Relevance of Pigs: Pigs are beloved characters in children’s books and movies, symbolising friendship, perseverance, and individuality. Babe, the talking pig, inspired audiences by demonstrating that anyone can make a difference. Annie’s story aligns with the goal of the cards by promoting self-worth, confidence and resilience, which resonates strongly with the intended age group.
